I don't know how the G480 works for cutting hair on your head, but for making cleanly demarcated sideburns or shaving a somewhat heavy beard to result in a close, stubble look it isn't as good as the cheaper Norelco G370 or a likewise cheaper Remington shaver, using either the G480's main shaving attachment or its 1" wide precision trimmer, with or without the plastic guides attached to them. The detail, micro foil shaver and nose hair attachments do seem to work better than on the G370 or on the Remington product. (The G370 does not include a micro foil shaver or a detail shaver and its nose hair attachment doesn't work as well for me as the G480's does.) In other words, whether due to unit to unit variation or a design problem, I haven't found one product which alone will do what I want well enough. Given the higher price of the G480 I am disappointed, particularly in light of the overwhelmingly favorable reviews here.
