Philips Sonicare Essence e5500 Power Toothbrush

This is a terrific product.

Unfortunately, I have had to buy three of these over the last two years, since the button that turns the brush on has broken in the first two, each after about two years of use.

If Philips fixes this, they have a 5 star product.

Philips Sonicare Advance (A-Series) Replacement Brush Head, Standard (2-Pack)

Yes, you heard right! The Philips Sonicare E-Series Brush Heads are now compatible with Sonicare Advance.

I used the Sonicare Advance Toothbrush and the A-Series brush head replacement for over 10 years before I switched over to the Sonicare Elite, which uses the E-Series brush head.

I recently got a brush head replacement for my Sonicare Elite and noticed that it is stated right on the package of the E-Series brush head replacements - in black and white - that the E-Series brush head replacements are now compatible with Sonicare Advance.

Intrigued, I tried popping the E-Series brush head into my Sonicare Advance - it's true! The E-Series brush head was a perfect fit for the Sonicare Advance.

SWEET!

E-Series vs. A-Series
---------------------
Right about now, you're probably thinking - yeah, yeah, so what's the big deal?

The E-Series brush head has a few improvements over the A-Series brush head:

- Smaller Brush Head - Better Reach
The E-Series has the same amount of bristles but the size of the brush head has been reduced. The smaller brush head provides a better reach on the back teeth

- Thinner Shaft - Less Invasive in the Oral Cavity
The shaft of the E-Series is also much thinner and slightly flexible. Not only does this help with making it easier for reach the back teeth, the thinner shaft of the E-Series is less invasive and much more friendly to your mouth and less likely to trigger gagging.

- Wide Angle of Brush Movement - Better Cleaning
The angle of the sweeping movement of the bristles is wider on the E-Series than it is on the A-Series. The increased movement of the bristles covers and cleans more teeth area.

- Improved Design - Less Gunk Buildup
The improved design of the E-Series makes it less prone to backflow from the brush head that runs down the shaft seeps into the recessed part of the brush handle that connects the brush head.

Conclusion
----------
The A-Series brush head does a phenomenal job of cleaning your teeth and gum line. However, it has some problems such as a relatively big and clumsy brush head and shaft. The E-Series brush heads has several improvements over the A-Series brush heads - the most important of which is the improved cleaning ability of the E-Series. Now that the E-Series brush heads are compatible with the Sonicare Advance, I see no reason why anyone should continue using the A-Series brush heads! As a long-time user of both the A-Series and the E-Series brush heads, I strongly recommend the E-Series brush heads instead.

Philips Norelco HQ8 Spectra Tripleheader Replacement Heads

Blades don't seem to be sharp as they should be, have to keep going over the face to finally get shaved. Doesn't seem to be as good as when bought the shaver in the first place.

This was a great buy. I love the way the toothbrush feels, it's like it puts a protective coating on my teeth that stays there all day...protecting.

Philips Sonicare ProResults HX6013 Brush Head Standard 3pk

Picked this up on the recommendation of a good friend. My whole family after using this for a few weeks, the whole family likes the way the brush cleans. Personally, my gums feel better after using this for this short time.

The different modes were a bit tricky to get everyone to understand, but we now all have our favorites.

Recommended buy for anyone who would like to step into using a sonic toothbrush and prefers a well made product.

Philips Norelco 7110 Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

Mine didn't hold a charge and I returned it for exchange. But, while I had it, it ran quitely and shaved closely. I sent it back just yesterday and don't know when the replacement will arrive.

Philips Norelco 7140 Cord/Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

I used to use disposable razors and used to always cut myself, which gets really annoying. I eliminated that problem by buying this electric razor. It did take my skin a few weeks to get used to it. In the beginning it used to dry my skin out a lot and it used to take me a good half hour to shave my face. It takes less than 10 minutes now because my skin got used to it and I don't miss hairs now. As mentioned in another review, it is annoying that you can't tell how much of the battery is left so sometimes it dies on you but you can just plug it in and then continue shaving. I end up having to charge my razor once a week and I shave every two days. A positive of the razor, though, is that once I'm done shaving I can just run it under warm water and clean it out. I wasn't too satisfied the first month because it missed hairs and took really long but I love this razor now that my skin seems to have adjusted well to it.

Philips Norelco 8140XL SpeedXL Men's Shaver

I had Norelco razors before that shaved well that used the lift and cut blades. With those razors you were supposed to shave with a rotating motion. With this razor if you shave with a rotating motion it pulls the whiskers out and it is very painful. You have to shave with and up and down motion, but you have to be very careful or it will still pull the whiskers out. This Speed XL shaver is much more expensive and does a bad job.
Shame on Norelco.

Philips Norelco 1050CC arcitec Men's Shaving System

I have been shaving with Norelco for over 15 years, and I have always loved it, but recently and due to malfunction of my norelco I decided to try the braun 8575, and it was a nightmare, shaving time quadrupled with very poor result, I gave the shaver enough time (3 months) then had to return and get this one. I appreciate norelco shavers, this one is really great compared to all I used before, shaving time about 3 min. the jet clean system however is not very effective, it does clean but the solution is alcohol free so it does not disinfect. additionally you still have to manually rinse the shaver before placing it in the cleaning system as cleaning system alone does not do the job!

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with Sanitizer

Just had a 6 month dental check-up and the dental hygienist noted an overall improvement since I began using the Sonic Flexcare Toothbrush.Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush with Sanitizer My teeth are whiter, gums are healthier, and she noted an overall improvement in tooth enamel.

The battery lasts for days before recharging which makes it nice for traveling; but, also included, is a small recharger to take on longer trips.

This product has made such a big improvement in my dental health that I plan to purchase one for each of my adult sons.

Philips Norelco 6940LC Reflex Action Men's Shaving System

The manual says to use this product exclusively for 21 days to give your face time to adapt to the shaving system. For users like me, this is an unforgivably long grace period. A well-engineered razor should adapt to your face. Your face should not have to adapt to the razor. I was disappointed from the very first shave and after a few more shaving attempts, abandoned it to go back to disposables. With every single shave, I had to clean up strays with a disposable, especially around the neck and under the chin. But in order to write a fair review, I started using it again 2 wks ago and decided to complete the 21 day trial.

After these 2 new weeks, I continue to be disappointed. This razor under-performs compared to other electrics I've used in the past. I'm not a hairy guy but my facial hair does grow back fast, requiring a quick shave every 2 days. If my facial hair grew just slightly longer (3-4 days), the "lift and cut" system becomes an irritating "yank and cut" system. The motor is either not fast enough or not powerful enough to keep pace as I roll the razor across my face. This was never a problem with past electrics I've owned, like the Remington Microscreen product line. Norelco's triple head design here add nothing to the functionality, and in fact, detract from the shaving performance in a major way.

The "Patented Reflex Action System" which was supposed to adjust "automatically to every curve on your face and neck for an uncommonly smooth shave" did not adjust to mine at all. Shaving with this takes me a lot longer and requires more effort than with a manual razor or my old Remington. The entire reason is the small active surface area of the heads. The actual cutting zone is a very small target consisting of only the outer ring of each circular head, which hair must poke itself through. As you pass the razor over your face, the hair must hit one of these small sweet-spots to get lifted and cut away. Every other part of the razor's face besides the rings is simply a dead-weight non-cutting surface, resulting in a lot of missed hairs whether using straight strokes or circular motions. The Remingtons, by contrast, offer a wide horizontal head with a lot of active surface area and requires much fewer strokes across the face.

The few design aspects I did like:

- elastic bungee cord plug minimizes entanglement and accidents
- flip-out sideburns trimmer works, though also small surface area
- rubberized non-slip grip

I will continue the experiment for 1 more wk, as the manual instructs and update as needed. I am not impressed so far.

Philips Norelco BG2030 Professional BodyGrooming System

I purchased this to upgrade from it's predecessor by Philips Norelco, and am delighted with the differences. I learned to use the previous one to do what I needed to do, this refined device reduces time, improves the quality of the trim and in general, creates a more positive "experience". I'm hairy, men get more hairy, and some of that hair gets more wild as we age, and I trim to avoid looking like an ill-bred ape, and I need to do it regularly.

The two comb attachment allows me to adjust between how I trim broad regions (chest, legs) and tight regions (groin, butt), and yes, the comb design makes a difference in terms of the feel on one's skin in various parts of one's anatomy; I'm glad for the more calibrated instrument as I go "down under", but the other comb works well for the vast mowing exercise that my chest, arms and legs represent. The choice of five settings is useful, although I suspect that the plastic adjustment between settings may fatigue over time, given the relatively lightweight nature of the operating mechanism. That said, both combs work to capture the bulk of the hair and trim it consistently on the first pass. A second pass generally nails it for me, with the exception of heavily contoured areas, where I need to pay more attention.... In the past, using the detatchable combs with the preceding model, I needed to take multiple passes, particularly on my legs, and choice of three lengths was somewhat limiting. This design has really enhanced the comb design so that hair is properly corralled and funneled through the comb teeth, so that I get the overall "look" I want (trimmed for the most part, but not shaved, consistent length of hair, no "bald patches", no dense copses of hair leftover....). I found that the design of the new combs was less abrasive on my skin, frankly, a welcome change from the previous design. In addition, the combs stay in place during use, I had a problem with the combs falling off (usually with the head) during use of the predecessor model.

The design of the head seems to be the same, so for close shaving (which I may do less of than other guys, I tend to trim rather than shave) it works the same as the preceeding model. Careful attention to holding the skin taut solves the dreaded nicking problem.

So, trims more consistently with less repeat "sweeps', more choices, better comb design.... represents a win all the way around. Storing the accessories in the base is a neat trick, which keeps those accessories from wandering around the bathroom.

The instructions were limited, the pictograms tiny and the "how-to" process was not really spelled out. Given the elegant and witty video generated for the first personal trimmer by Philips Norelco, I am surprised that they haven't come up with a helpful "how to" guide tucked into the package. Male bodytrimming is a rather personal topic, it tends to be covered in the media only with snickers and embarassment, you don't talk tools and techniques at the coffee machine in the office or in the locker room at the gym - at least the one I go to - , so one learns by trial and error. A simple two/three page foldout with pictograms might aussuage fears about slicing and dicing so close to so many treasured parts.

I use this because, as an older hairy guy, I want a trim, comfortable, non-sweaty look, I want wild hairs to be trimmed, and I want a decent short "look" pretty much everywhere. This device, which I've now used twice, promises to be the most effective personal grooming appliance out there. now, if Philips could just find a way to magically clean the hairs up after!

Philips Norelco NT9110 Precision Nose and Ear Trimmer

This is really a good nose and ear trimmer. I'm very particular about trimming nose and ear hair. I used to use an old Norelco battery operated razor for about 20 years. The blades finally wore out and I was left with the problem of replacing it. Ordered this product and now I am completely satisfied with its performance. As always, the packaging is the most complicated - the product is sealed as tight as Fort Knox. Gee, I wish they could make packaging more simple to get into. All in all, this is a very good product and does a very fine job. I highly recommend it.

Philips Norelco T980 Turbo Vacuum Trimmer

I like this trimmer alot except that this is the second one that I have had to buy cuz it keeps slipping out of my hand and breaking. I use it to shave my head not my beard so I have to move it around in my hands alot and it is too smooth and has no flat or grippy surfaces. This next one I plan on putting some rubber grip tape strips on it. If it was not for this I would give it a full 5 stars. It does the job it is supposed to do and vacuums good even without putting it in turbo.

Philips Norelco arcitec 1050 Men's Shaver

After reading all of the bad reviews on this new Norelco shaver, I swore I was not going to buy this unit.

Well, a few months ago I realized my local stores didn't stock my HQ5 Norelco replacement blades anymore and I about had a heart attack. Oh, darn, I am now being forced to upgrade and I was quite happy with my current shaver.

I have had a Norelco 5885XL for the past 13 years. I love this unit and it suits me well. This only noteworthy things about this old unit is that I have had to have the batteries replaced only two times, but this is normal since they wear out every 6 years or so.

Here is my 1050x review.. it was painful to write, but here goes..

--This is a noisy shaver folks.. I graduated to a 5885XL a long time ago and was surprised of the whisper quiet shave it delivered. The 1050x is about 2-3 time noisier than my 15 year old Norelco, WTH? This is not good. I simply cannot accept a noisy shaver. This thing is inches away from my ears at 5am and that is very annoying. I need peace and quiet at those early hours, and this would not work long term.

--What a bad shave. Starting with a 2-day shadow growth, I shaved half of my face with my trusty 5885XL [using 1.5 year old blades] and the other half with my shiny new 1050x unit. I actually had my wife feel both shaves afterwords to confirm I wasn't being overly critical of my new toy.

As I suspected, she confirmed my 5885xl produced a better shave, in about the same amount of time.

As I shaved with the 1050x, I realized that I was going over the same growth areas without making things smoother, especially around the neck. I was getting tired, frustrated, and irritated. The pivoting head technology is clearly inferior to Norelcos older units.

--Here come the skin irritations: Ahhh!!!
Just a few minutes after my shave test had ended, my 1050x side was now irritated and not feeling comfortable [like my 5885xl side was]. Having used Norelcos all of my shaving life, about 25 years, this irritation I feel is not normal, and I do not find this acceptable; even if there is a break-in period; not for me there isn't. no thanks..

--Bad charging system! What the heck is it with this terrible charging system. I should be able to plug the unit in directly and not have to lug around more junk to lose or break while on travel. The AC adapter cable does not even fit into the travel case, how stupid is that!?! I can see this cable being the 1st thing I lose on a business trip because it does not have a place to be stored.

Gosh, I wanted to love using this shaver. I was excited and wanted to prove all these other bad reviews wrong. Sadly, they are correct in every way.

My guess is many of the good reviews are being written by persons who have not had the pleasure of trying one of Norelco's older shavers to notice the amazing quality they can provide. Folks, do yourself a favor and get an older model, preferably something from the late 90's IMHO.

Norelco, come'on buddy.. Your losing me big time here.

It's back to my 5885xl, and I have found my HQ5's here on Amazon, clicking buy; and it's byebye to my 1050x.

:(

I've owned Norelco electric razors for over 20 years and found them to work better than Braun. Not crazy about this razor, you must clean it every 1 to 2 days versus the older style design can go well over a week. It does the great job I'm use to but it's a pain to clean after everytime I shave. Also, I'm concerned the way the shaving heads open, they flip open individually from the center out and don't know if they will go the 5 to 7 years my other Norelco shavers have lasted. BTW, the only reason why I replaced my previous Norelco razors is because the batteries would no longer hold a charge.
