... I've been a Norelco rotary user for the past two decades, so when the Arcitec series became available I was immediately smitten, primarily by its sleek design. However I was put off by their prices and the rather lukewarm reviews I was finding around the internet, so I held off buying one until Costco offered up the 1060X at an even better discount than their normal aggressive pricing, one that made it too irresistible to pass on. Plus, with Costco usually generous return policy, what could be the harm in trying one?
I admit that my initial shaves were not impressive. Getting a close shave meant prolonged shaving sessions, which if I were to be pressed for time would probably mean that I would be late for where I'd need to be...or would have had a pretty bad looking shave that day. But over the course of a week or so, I found I and my face and neck had gotten used to the 1060X...shaves were as good if not altogether better and smoother than what I had been achieving with my Norelco XL, and the shaving time was down considerably from when I first started using the Arcitec. All in all, I warmed up to the abilities of my 1060X.
That is until I let myself gather up a week's worth of growth. Whereas my Arcitec was now performing excellently against the daily stubble, it was totally lost against the long whiskers I had allowed to grow over the course of two weekends and the work week in between. Norelco rotaries have never performed all that well for me against growth like that, but they still managed to knock the whiskers off if given enough effort, However the 1060X manage to erase all that and redefine the word 'abysmal' with its less-than-meek efforts. Only after hitting areas on my face first with the trimmer could I use the rotary heads to finish the job. On that first occasion, I ultimately gave up on the Arcitec and pulled out the XL to finish that shave.
I still have the Arcitec and use it daily. It does give me an excellent shave in that role, and its battery performs brilliantly with a long charge life when compared to my older Norelco units. But as I am prone to do, when those times where I allow my whiskers to grow that next knock down shave will always be done (or at least started) with the standby XL. Not exactly a glistening endorsement, but then in my case such praise is not justified. But as long as I use my 1060X daily, it'll be a keeper. ...
